A small emo-punk band out of Columbus, Ohio just put out my favorite pop-punk song I’ve heard since Wicked Bears. The writing is wry, straightforward, in your face, and somehow filled with clever lyrics.
I can’t even pretend to be surprised that this song found its way to my ears despite the fact that I don’t really listen to much pop-punk or emo- this is exactly the type of music that I live for and love- socially conscious, anti-capitalist, pro-revolution tracks. Make it something catchy as fuck, that will have me singing along for days after the song ends and you’ve written the perfect song, and this is exactly that. The line “I’m cashing in my karma for some real sharp gravity (G-U-I-L-L-O-T-I-N-E)” may be one of my favorite lines ever written. I love the repeated line of “I always thought that if the pen is mightier than the sword, then how come actions speak louder than words (and if you want a way better world than keep on yelling with a little bit of spelling G-U-I-L-L-O-T-I-N-E”
Honestly, I don’t even want to review this song, I just want to post the full lyrics and tell you to judge for yourself. Go listen to the song, enjoy how fucking catchy it is, and while I definitely want you to sing along with me, I’d love it if we just turned this song into a live-action musical with a live performance while singing…
