Having teased stuff since mid-2023, arty Brooklyn-based bedroom indie pop duo Headlamp (comprised of Ali Mortazavi & Elijah Schwellin) have finally released their debut single Lucky, and it’s an absolute beaut.
Elliott Smith-esque in its initial delicacy, but with nods to something slightly more avant-leaning (perhaps a touch of Pavement?) this is an amazing first track.
In the words of the band: “The song tells a story about alienation and not recognizing something that you were once so familiar with”.
As the song progresses and eventually concludes, it ventures into almost Dinosaur Jr territory with the combination of sweet acoustic tones and fuzzy textures.
The album this song is taken from is due for release on July 1st via Candlepin Records and if this track is anything to go by, it’s going to be well worth a listen.
