Single: Honey I’m Home – Alive

Hailing from the Netherlands, 5-piece modern alt-rock band Honey I’m Home have released their 2nd single, Alive.

The band writes: “Alive is a song about living with chronic pain and being let down by the medical system. The feeling of screaming for help but only being pushed down deeper into the black hole of eternal suffering”.
That’s some pretty heavy stuff.

When Alive starts, there’s a really nice, scratchy lo-fi opening with a great guitar tone and a strange, eerie backwards sound. The vocal starts with a wonderful hook that feels so fresh and evocative.

Sofie Ooteman’s voice is amazing. There’s a wonderfully warm, silky tone, and just a hint of an accent. From the low notes near the bottom of her range, all the way up to the clarity of the later, higher register, there is expression and depth.

She sings “This is not a call for help – it’s a scream”.

The track moves through each section, building on the last. The guitars become more distorted, a cello subtly appears, and we get some lovely creative FX and atmospherics.

A really unique sound, for sure – mixing old and new – I thought I could hear influences of Radiohead, Oasis, & Smashing Pumpkins at various moments in the track – but it’s all absorbed and combined to make something new and truly interesting.

Alive is a powerful song with an addictive melody, which rewards repeated listens.

Soon to embark on a European tour (where they will be supporting Hotline TNT), and with an album due out in May 2026, the future looks bright for Honey I’m Home!
