The strength of the guitar is probably at its highest at the beginning of Had Sandy’s new single “I Hate My Parents And I Wanna Learn How To Swim”. Coupled with the drums, the sound has left me feeling like a Friday night or a naive child getting ready for war.
Clearly, the song title and the song itself don’t seem similar in any way, which left me wondering why Had Sandy chose that angle. The title gives the impression of a young adolescent who is struggling to make the right decisions. They have taken a liking to someone who may be bad for them, or maybe they just feel the need to let go of this non-platonic emotion. There is a battle in their mind that leaves them withdrawing but still succumbing. As the writer says: “There are things I can’t control”.
Had Sandy’s “I Hate My Parents And I Wanna Learn How To Swim” seems to lay emphasis on the instrumentation rather than the vocals. This may be intentional, as the rage and frustration are well communicated. They have managed to express the complex mind of someone in love, especially someone young whose mind could be all over the place the second doubt is planted.
