Single: Generifus – Waking Winter

Generifus is the music project of Washington State native Spencer Sult. Beginning in 2005, Sult has written, recorded and released around twenty LPs, Eps, Singles and Compilations. Generifus has toured the USA multiple times and Japan once via car, train, Greyhound bus and plane.

This is a little introduction to this artist we have already covered on our blog and last time we enjoyed the previous album:

They are making a comeback with an upcoming album titled Summerberrys, scheduled for release in October. After the success of their previous album Rearrangel, Spencer decided to book a studio at the Unknown Studio in Anacortes with no specific agenda, simply aiming to record some new songs. And it turned out to be a great decision – the recording process went extremely well.

Seattle-based musician Jonny Gundersen (Jonny G and the Music Factory) came into the fold as a new Generifus collaborator and was joined by regulars Wilson Caicedo and Alex Fermanis. Anacortes legends Karl Blau and Allyson Foster added a bit of their own magic to many of the tracks.

The press release also gives us hints about what to expect from the newest album:

The resulting body of work covers common ground for those familiar with the Generifus universe: coming of age in the Pacific Northwest, subtle interpersonal dilemmas, everyday minutiae and musings on a world that’s gone wrong but seemingly can’t be changed. The finished product is a joyful 27-minute adventure through country-tinged Northwest rock’n’roll.”

The latest single, Waking Winter, is derived from the forthcoming album, which is currently available for pre-order on Bandcamp. Serving as the lead single, it provides a fantastic glimpse of what the album has in store. I’ve decided to refrain from listening to the entire album before its release because I want to experience the same level of excitement as everyone else. I’ve always found that experiencing an album for the first time upon its release enhances my enjoyment of it. This song is yet another stellar example of the artist’s incredible talent. I’m thoroughly enjoying the blend of alternative country and indie rock from the Pacific Coast, and I’m hopeful that you’ll love it as much as I do.
