Before we get into the music, let’s go ahead and check out the pedigree, shall we?
Frontman Kevin Moxcey currently works as a commercial jingle writer. San Diego, California’s Frog Body is a project that churns out slabs of DIY psych-pop. This alone may have you thinking that the song “Luanna” will be a sweet, confectionate treat of keyboards and airy dreams, right? As wonderful as that may seem, I wouldn’t go comparing them to Tame Impala yet, at least not with this track. “Luanna” is what it sounds like if Amusement Parks on Fire went from hazy shoegaze to the alternative music that Sonic Youth or Apples in Stereo are more known for. Think if The Helio Sequence or Swervedriver wanted to get out of the sun, and start doing more scissorkicks at local basement shows. The hushed vocals, the fuzzy buzz of guitar strings, and the drums, which pound through the intro like a march of black rubber boots, play a driving rhythm throughout the approximately three-minute runtime. The track will bring you to a time where, in indie rock, the “rock” is just as important to the creation as the indie.
