Single: Forest Ray – Send My Love

My writing output has significantly diminished recently as I’ve transitioned into a more editorial and leadership role within our writer’s group. While I continue to contribute by writing most of the articles featured on our website, I’ve noticed a remarkable increase in the number of talented writers focusing on music coverage instead of me. This growth fills me with pride, seeing our community thrive. To maintain my writing skills and stay connected to the craft, I carve out some spare moments to write, ensuring I don’t lose touch with my passion.

One of the standout bands from recent submissions has been Forest Ray, hailing from Seattle, WA. They are known for their dynamic and eclectic lineup, consisting of a rotating cast of collaborators from the West Coast and Midwest, including notable musicians from bands like Federale, The Shivas, and TV Star. Their latest track, “Send My Love,” was crafted in their analog home studio and produced entirely using analog equipment on a vintage 24-track machine. The warmth and fuzziness of the sound are palpable, which only enhances my appreciation for the music.

According to the band, “Send My Love” is a heartfelt homage to the friends and supporters who have touched their lives. Even though these connections are often separated by miles and time zones, the sentiment conveyed in the song reflects a deep sense of gratitude that touring musicians frequently struggle to express in person. This track is a part of their upcoming LP, which is slated for release later this year, and I eagerly anticipate its arrival.

The band describes “Send My Love” as a twangy mid-tempo jam infused with the soulful twang of steel guitar and country-inspired bends woven into a rich tapestry of synth and fiddle. The song builds toward a fuzz-laden solo reminiscent of Crazy Horse, culminating in a beautifully crafted three-part harmony that has become a signature element of Forest Ray’s recordings. Their articulation of the sound is spot-on; I am genuinely enamored with how they blend the laid-back essence of slacker lo-fi rock with a fresh alt-country vibe.

While I’ve never considered myself a die-hard fan of traditional country music, I have discovered a newfound appreciation for this alt-country sound that is emerging recently. It evokes memories of the road trips I took across the rural landscapes of America, where the music resonates with nostalgia and the stories behind the lyrics. I plan to share the song’s lyrics below; you may want to read along or even sing along if the mood strikes you. This new track captivated me and ignited my excitement for the forthcoming album.

To everyone who ever done me right,
Anyone who tried
Send my love right (to em) down the line
Keep ’em close in mind
May you always keep a steady stride
May you avoid hard times
Hope your road is soft and kind
And your winds align

So I try just to find
all the things that went wrong
Wouldn’t hide out of sight trying hard to stay strong
Realize what went by what was worth holdin on
In the blink of an eye and you’re already gone

To everyone who ever done me right,
Anyone who tried
Send my love right (to em) down the line
Keep ’em close in mind
Late at night if you start to cry
Hope your tears will dry
Hope the your road is soft and kind
And the winds align

As the clock
Unwinds
We’ll decide
Who we want to
Stay by our side
And I hope you find

So I try just to find
all the things that went wrong
Wouldn’t hide out of sight trying hard to stay strong
Realize what went by what was worth holdin on
In the blink of an eye and you’re already gone
