Single: Field Hospitals – In The Corner

Just what the doctor ordered, Field Hospitals have arrived on the scene with their latest offering, ‘In the Corner’. Heralded for their previous EP ‘Ethel Green’, which was released earlier this year, ‘In the Corner’ offers a fresh perspective for the band and helps to demonstrate how the band keep going from strength to strength.

Infused with their classic jangly-pop sound, I think the song also touches upon the nostalgia of the early 2000s, with the sound reminiscent of bands like I Was a Cub Scout. The familiarity is comforting in a way, taking you right back to when life was a tad bit simpler.

It wouldn’t be a Field Hospitals song without their sonic lyricism and slightly whiny delivery, with a highlight for me being “in the corner of your eyes, it was all that I would need tonight.” This lyric reflects on the single’s themes, love and subsequently losing it, which all good indie pop songs should touch upon. Paired alongside the vigorous guitar riffs, it makes for an impactful song and one that compels you to listen to it again and again.

Though they may be from Minneapolis, the duo’s sound is definitely going to go worldwide if ‘In the Corner’ is anything to go by.
