Single: earth moon transit – Faking It, Not Making It

There’s a definite 90s slacker vibe to Earth Moon Transit’s newest single – so much so that you can almost hear the offset guitars. We’re getting distinct Pavement vibes from the outset – which will come as welcome news to many.

There is also a grungey, almost Pixies or Breeders-esque undertone to the chorus and the guitars seem to occasionally venture ever so slightly into shoegaze territory. If shoegaze was played by Jonny Greenwood.

These guys aren’t 90s pastiche one-trick-ponies though, oh no. In fact, in 2022 they released a 41-minute “single” called Kraut in C# which, as the title suggests, was more indebted to the sound of Krautrock acts like Neu! and Can. They have quite a varied box of tricks indeed.

Going back to Faking It, Not Making It – the song is dynamic and engrossing, and at only 2:17 it absolutely sails by. There is a confidence and an assuredness in the execution here that starkly contravenes the song’s “I’ll never be a rock star” sentiment. These guys know damn well what they’re doing.

Their debut album of the same name is due May 2025, released via Norwegian indie label Øra Fonogram, and is available to preorder from their Bandcamp here.
