There are songs that describe love, and there are songs that make you feel it. “Loverly” by Moscow-based project Dog Silent understands the difference. Released June 5th, the dream pop single lets you into its world.
“Loverly” is one of the few songs where I truly felt an escape. Alexandra Khomutova’s vocals flow so beautifully throughout the track that it’s almost effortless, with a vocal delivery that suits the song’s themes perfectly and feels as though it belongs in between a memory or a dream. It’s a voice you don’t want to forget.
What makes “Loverly” so captivating is what composer and producer Artem Postavnin does with the instrumentals. The way distortion creeps through the track feels so exhilarating. It mimics one’s perception of love, blurring through to make a familiarity with one. For a track with such sparse lyrics, the instrumentals carry the weight.
Dog Silent is a band one must listen to: This song is one that I will be listening to forever, and one that captivated me so much. The lyrics on “Loverly” are devastating in a way many dream-like songs tend to be.
Dog Silent made something transporting with this single, and I hope this band lasts a lifetime. Please check out another one of their songs that is reminiscent of this vibe: “Voices in My Head,” which is attached to their album of the same title.
