Listening to this song felt like stepping into a horror movie. This is meant both literally and figuratively. I had no idea where it was going next. The singer’s voice sounded hypnotic. Together with the rock guitar, it was the perfect recipe for initiation.
The lyrics are also horrific, which isn’t a surprise. I imagined someone waking up, in the thick of the night, in an unfamiliar house. They feel so scared at the slightest sound. The darkness behind the closet suddenly doesn’t look like a shadow anymore. An interesting image, painted at the beginning of the song.
As we proceed to the second half of ’ Mythra ’, I began to see it in a different light. The singer could be addressing the overwhelming fact that everyone dies. We gradually lose sight of ourselves. It’s scary when all that glory, hardly earned, is gone in a moment’s notice. The sudden reality that life has a limit leaves you frightened and wondering if it’s all worth it. Whether people will celebrate or mock you after that, you may never know. So would you rather die with a great impression on others or die knowing you failed yourself?
