Single: defluo cervus – OctoberRainOnMyWindowPane

This is a 5th wave emo single. By the way, speaking of the waves: the 5th wave is said to be happening nowadays, when emo is usually mixed with other styles, such as garage rock, pop music, shoegaze etc. This particular track is, I guess, a mix with garage rock and grunge, as well as with a bit of noise and math rock. I also thought about Pixies when listening to the single: because of the vocals, guitars and the whole atmosphere.

The single has an unusual story: the track first began one night when a guitar player heard a rain tapping on a window pane as they were getting ready for bed, and instantly heard a melody that would become an intro. Then the 2 guitarists of the band worked to turn that intro into a duet that would sort of ping-pong from one guitar to the other. The melody is quite interesting, and sometimes it sounds like there’s also a violin playing at the beginning.
When it comes to sound, the track has a bit of unpolished guitars (that’s why I thought about garage rock), anxious and emotional verses and a comforting and soothing chorus, which balances the atmosphere and creates a contrast.

Recommended for cozy evenings.
