Single: Darko the Super & BLKrKRT – Tiny Dancer in the Palm of My Hand

Now, we know that hip-hop is not normally our forte, but this was just too damn weird to pass up. When was the last time you heard a hip hop tune reference Elton John and Bob Dylan on the track and John Lennon on the artwork?

Darko the Super is the most prolific man in hip-hop (just check out the discography) and perhaps the weirdest. Combine his unique and unusual style with similarly individualistic beats from BLKrKRT and the whole collaboration album is a curious and intriguing prospect.

Tiny Dancer In The Palm Of My Hand is a reflective abstract indie hip-hop cut that is so bold and brave that it demands your attention from the very beginning. It’s incredibly difficult to liken it to anything at all, but at a stretch, it sounds a bit like a combination of El-P and Ice-T doing Curtis Plum, but without the humour. Or at least, with a very different sense of humour.

Featuring minimal synth based instrumentation, wry wit and relatable and relevant lines like “MTV makes me wanna smoke crack”, “the rich get richer, the poor get stressed, anxious and depressed til death? More or less” and “Dear God, we could use a little help down here” – this 2 and a half minute opus holds a mirror up to the modern audience and asks questions to which you probably do not want to know the answers. Give Darko a Grammy indeed.
