Swedish duo Club 8 have been crafting dreamy, indie pop since their formation in 1995. Based in Stockholm, members Karolina Komstedt and Johan Angergård blur the lines between indie pop and lo-fi rock.
Their recent track, “Stay Together,” leans into a nostalgic sunny day mood. The bassline is upbeat and ‘hoppy,’ giving the song a kind of bounce, like riding a bike along the boardwalk on a windy summer afternoon. Guitars are jangly and melodic, sparkling in the gaps between vocals with lush reverb. The organ pads and rhythm guitars are subtle but essential, filling in the sections and creating motion without drawing attention to themselves. Sonically, the mix has a nice balance of ‘shine’ and ‘punch.’
Still, it’s the vocals that glue the whole thing together. There’s a kind of emotional steadiness to them, very unbothered and moving forward. Supported by the sheen backing harmonies. “Stay together in this fucked up world” feels blunt and painfully current. Later, “I can no longer be bothered” hits with soft nostalgia.
It’s melancholy, sure—but like that breezy summer ride, it also feels calm, warm, and quietly reassuring. Be sure to add ‘Stay Together’ to your playlists this summer! ☀️
