It has been a while since I last wrote a post on our blog, as I have been focusing solely on operational tasks and my editor role. However, I am glad to have some free time to practice writing a little more.
Callum is a emo folk artist based Nottingham, UK that. It was released 7 years ago. We usually don’t cover such old music, as we focus on fresh music, but I personally enjoyed this track, so I decided to give it space. The artist draws inspiration from Bright Eyes, Phoebe Bridgers, or, more broadly, the emo genre. For example, Louder Than War wrote that “Kerrigan’s haunting howl and chugging chords have finally given him ascension in that troubled world of emo rock.”
The single definitely belongs to the folk genre with an emo feel, and I am all for it: honest vocals, emotive lyrics, and just a track with expressive vocals. I enjoyed the stripped-down acoustic guitar and the raw sound of the artist banging on the strings: simple melody, no drumming, just instruments and vocals.
The song sounded beautiful to me. Raw, emotional, honest, whatever you feel there. The artist hasn’t released any new songs in recent years, which is a pity, as I really loved this single, and I hope they will release more soon.
