Brady Scott’s name is actually a combination of his first name and his Father’s first name. Brady grew up watching his father play drums in numerous rock bands and recorded “Therapy” (his first single in over four years) as a throwback to that era of happy, feel-good music.
The 1950s sound has been recreated nicely here, with ample space in the mix and generous reverb. The guitars have a great twang, and the drums are full of rides and splashes.
Brady’s voice is clear and warm – there is a pure tone and a simple clarity that emphasises that retro sound. We even get some cleverly incorporated Buddy Holly-esque stuttering!
The melody rises and falls in a simple, satisfying way, and there is an interesting juxtaposition between the happy-go-lucky music and the more serious subject matter.
Brady says: “The lyrics are dedicated to the love of my life, who is my therapy when times are tough”.
He sings, “I was terrified. In a craze. You changed my life and put me in my place…I need therapy. There’s something wrong with me. But you could change my mind.”
Brady has managed to convey a serious message whilst keeping the music fun and light – no easy feat.
