“This song is a indie rock ode to our early 2000s childhood. It can be used to effectively teleport back in time to the simpler times of eating fruit by the foot and playing PlayStation 2. Listen only if you are prepared to catch a wave of nostalgia.”
Back in December, we discussed the return of Asparagus, and now they’ve released a new single that perfectly encapsulates the slacker shoegaze lo-fi rock vibe. While their sound is familiar, it feels refreshingly new, resonating deeply with those of us who are yearning for a musical nostalgia trip back to the 2000s. This theme of revisiting our past is something I’ve been exploring with my wife, reflecting on how these musical trends can evoke a sentimental longing.
Interestingly, Asparagus has begun to evoke feelings of nostalgia for me—akin to the way I remember the 90s, even though I was just a child during that era. Their latest release really taps into this retrospective atmosphere, both lyrically and sonically. The resurgence of 90s-style sound is unmistakable, particularly with the strong dominance of shoegaze in the music submissions we’re receiving lately. I find it incredibly satisfying, as I still have an appetite for new shoegaze music.
It’s particularly exciting to see Asparagus back from their hiatus, bringing new energy and creativity to the table. Their latest tracks suggest that the band may be working on a new album, and the songs are already sounding very promising. I love the vibrancy and rawness they infuse into their music, and I’m eager to see what they have in store for us in the future. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for their upcoming releases.
