Garden is the new tune from Metro Manilla-based singer-songwriter and producer Andrea Obscura. Her first new music for almost two years, her distinct brand of indie/pop/rock is clearly influenced by some 80s/90s classics – we feel like we get more than a whiff of acts like The Cure, The Sundays & Lush but blended with the now ubiquitous bedroom pop sound, this produces something pretty unique.
We’re immediately reminded of another artist we covered here recently – Gabrielle Grace, and her song “It’s Not That I Hate You”. Garden is, in the words of the artist “about building a home with someone you love, dreaming of sharing a life with them. It’s an indie pop rock track that incorporates the nostalgic infectiousness of the 90s to 2000s pop rock.”
There are also flecks of more modern-sounding influences here – acts like Olivia Rodrigo and Phoebe Bridgers. The balance that Andrea seems to have struck – between auteur artistry and accessibility – is just right.
