Single: Almost There But Not Really – Empty

ATBNR is an emerging band hailing from the vibrant Southside of Chicago, known for their evocative soundscapes that blend melancholic melodies with poignant political themes. Their music features shimmering, chime-like guitars that layer over intricate, syncopated rhythms, creating a richly textured auditory experience. This dreamy fusion of shoegaze and post-rock not only captivates listeners but also generates an exhilarating atmosphere that envelops you from the very first note. With a new single on the horizon, the band has generously shared a quote about their latest work, promising to draw audiences even deeper into their enchanting world.

The song is about confused mourning. I fell in love with a 90’s B-list actor’s movies only to find out later that they long passed away in a tragic and highly publicized death 20 years ago. I didn’t think I should be sad about it, but yet I still felt some sort of way. Something was lost before I even watched their movies and knew who they were. I didn’t know them personally yet through media and happenstance I knew so much about how they passed. That felt confusing to me and made me sad.

The song is deeply infused with a heavy shoegaze influence, weaving together layers of shimmering guitar effects and ethereal vocals to create a monumental and complex atmosphere steeped in melancholy. As the track progresses, a rich tapestry of sounds envelops the listener, drawing them into a dreamlike state. The climactic outro, which resonates with a post-rock essence, serves as a powerful culmination of the sonic journey.

I’ve encountered music labeled as apocalyptic dream pop before, but this piece evokes a similarly haunting vibe that lingers on the heart. The thrilling sound palette is intricately designed to ensnare your senses, allowing you to lose yourself within its captivating depths. Each listen reveals new nuances, making it a truly mesmerizing experience that beckons you to hit replay repeatedly.
