As an introvert, I’m all too familiar with the feeling of walking into a party and feeling like time’s stopping still while everyone else around you acts normal, has a drink, shakes their thing, and generally has a good old time. But then something happens over the course of the night that makes everything worth it. That’s the vibe multi-talented Copenhagen-based artist Albert Hertz brings to new single “The Party”.
Hertz gets the party atmosphere going right off the bat, the funky guitar line and the danceable rhythm make everything feel chilled out, mischievous and uplifting all at once, as though you’re part of the fun happening in all the different rooms of the house. Then you get to the voice; Hertz’s low, almost muffled tones on “I’m a mannequin challenge while everyone is dancing” take us inside his own mind, reverberating rather than commanding, before shifting to something sweeter and more wistful as he remembers the object of his affections showing up, wanting desperately to return to that moment.
Hertz croons “I wanna spin and rewind it and replay“, and that’s exactly my attitude towards “The Party”, a song that deserves repeated listens whether at a crowded shindig or in quieter, more intimate settings.
