EP: James Rees – Normal People

Raised in Stourbridge, but currently operating out of a one-bed flat in Hackney, James has recently launched his solo artist project. Using DIY artists of past and present as inspiration, James released his self-produced debut single ‘Circles’, in July 2020.

A couple of years passed since that and here is a new EP called Normal People. Somehow I cannot stop thinking about Sally Rooney’s book, but I am not sure if this EP and that book are connected in any way. This new EP was recorded on a cassette recorder, so it has a nice warm, lo-fi touch. I discovered this EP through the third track When We Were Young, which is definitely the catchiest one of them all, but all of the tracks are creating a special atmosphere and even a story together. Additionally, a cassette release gives it a really final touch to make it a perfect EP. I am really enjoying the variety of melodies and moods in all songs, which creates a colorful palette. I am always so happy to share British artists on my blog and will continue doing so.

You can support the artist on Bandcamp and get a cassette.
