EP: Glass-Beagle – Train Song

Chicago-based Glass-Beagle’s unique and energetic blend of country, indie, folk, power pop, and rock n roll has an almost nervous energy about it. Like a child that won’t sit still and stop playing with its toy trains, Train Song is a noisy exploration of the highs and lows of public transport. The pedal steel absolutely sings whilst the combination of distorted guitars and crashing drums smacks you upside the head. It’s a sensory overload, in a very good way.

The b-side is the yang to the first tracks ying – methodical pace and shimmering, evocative sounds meld to make something hazy, dream-like and ethereal. There’s an Elliott Smith-esque delicacy in the delivery for the first half of the song. Eventually it gets a little noisier and the textures from the first song are present again.

The combination of these two tracks together are a wonderful introduction to a band who have clearly carved out a sonic niche that is all their own. These songs are taken from their forthcoming EP, due to be released in May.
