EP: daystar – lightbringer

‘lightbringer’ is the debut EP by the young Singaporean artist Daystar. Suppose you’re obsessed with reverberated guitars and dreamy melodies like me. In that case, you’ll definitely want to keep an eye on this one.

Daystar first started putting out music in 2022 with the song ‘SOLAR POWER’, which has more of a hip-hop vibe. After dropping plenty of other singles, he finally released his first EP, ‘lightbringer’, in 2025, the one mentioned at the beginning of this review.

‘lightbringer’ brings us six tracks with a rich and unique sound that blends elements of shoegaze, slowcore, post-punk, indie pop, and even a touch of alternative R&B reminiscent of artists like Keshi, and god, I even hear hints of hyperpop. If this doesn’t satisfy your music taste, then I don’t know what will.

When writing his submission to us at Start Track, he highlighted the song ‘search’, which is the closing track of the record, and I can totally see why. The song starts off calm, slow, and suddenly, it is an explosion. He shares with us a little bit about the story behind it:

“‘search’ is a dreamy shoegaze track with hazy, washed-out guitars and grungy tones. Evoking The Cranberries, Beach House, and Slowdive, it captures the ache of incompleteness and longing. To search is to want, to desire—a cup half empty. The track’s narrative on what you search for is open-ended, shaped by the listener’s own desires. Promoted heavily via shortform content.”

Listening to it for the first time was an awesome experience. Being hit by the ethereal melody, the dense, immersive, and dreamy guitars, along with the heavy bass that complements them so well, felt like flying. I felt so sad when the song ended because it felt so short and left me wanting more. The same goes for all the other remaining tracks; ‘to the sun’ is my favorite so far.

It is always very fulfilling to be able to connect with artists all around the world, there are so many hidden gems out there and I feel like I’ve found one of them, I will 100% have his discography on repeat, I’m also very excited to see what he’ll be putting out in the future. Give it a listen!
