EP: Cold Waves – From Here to Heaven

Cold Waves, an indie artist originally from San Diego, currently living in Florida, writes and records in his bedroom. He got into music when he was younger, but really fell in love with it in college, where he started to figure out how to write songs and properly record them. His songs tend to have an overall melancholy feel to them, with some exceptions. There are some that are more upbeat and hook-heavy; an example of this can be found on the project I am about to discuss.

That project is a 5-track EP titled “From Here to Heaven,” released on October 28, 2021. The first track, a melancholic instrumental, immediately gives you a feel for what’s in store for the remainder of the project, which clocks in at 13 minutes. Going into the second track, and my personal favourite, a more upbeat song about the beginnings of a relationship and wanting to tell the whole world that you belong to each other. With a groovy drumbeat and catchy guitar riffs. This song fades nicely into the next, which leans back into that chill, smooth feel of holding on to moments with people you love. The fourth track envelops you in beautiful guitar melodies and lyrics that seem very personal to him. To me, this song can be interpreted differently by anyone going through a similar experience. The fifth and final track is like a sequel to the first instrumental, every part of this song is expertly organized. It conveys a fantastic message about being surrounded by loved ones and comparing that to seeing heaven, which I think everyone can relate to – the joy and happiness that come from being with friends and family.

Overall, I would highly recommend checking out this EP from Cold Waves, along with his other stuff. There are three new singles out, the newest one being “Birds Of Paradise,” which was released on June 27, 2025, for an upcoming album that he hopes to have out late summer or early fall, which I am super stoked to check out.
