Album: Tired Moons – We Are Always Becoming Ourselves

Let’s take a second to discuss this nothing burger of a descriptive term we know and love so well as “content”. Musicians hate it, entertainers entertain the possibility of using it to sell records, consumers live for it. Record labels, major ones anyway, ask people all the time to start using Twitter, TikTok, anything as a means to sell their record. Not a whole lot of them get the last one being a point. Basically, anything besides just the music.

You see, back in the days of the 60s and 70s, they had more than just the music. They had the looks, the aesthetics, they had video, they had impactful concerts that help extend the vision posed BY The music. Music is never just about lyrics and melody. If you knew how to extend it past the original medium, it can be a whole experience. An audio-visual one, if you will. While you will not see Tired Moons doing TikTok dances anytime soon, their latest album has indeed demonstrated the art of the music being more than just the music on We Are Always Becoming Ourselves

In addition to their minimalist/ambient compositions, they have written a poem for each and every one of the tracks. So, if you listen to the music, and picture an emptiness that collides with the peace of such tracks (you are allowed to let the music itself inspire a wandering of the mind), you always have the poems to romanticize what many would consider mundane details of life. This is not content but art. An enhancement, if you ever need one for your listening experience.

So, the next time you fear the call for making “content” (still a very droll term), never fear anything that can make music more than just what blasts through your headphones. Just think of the effort of Tired Moons, and you will be on your way.
