Single: Fountain Road – The Trees Are Talking

listening to oneself is the only way to feel this world to the fullest

Andy Monaghan – formerly the guitarist and producer behind the band Frightened Rabbit – returns as Fountain Road, with the new song “The Trees Are Talking”. The track came out on August 18, 2026, on Monohands Records.

The new track is very scratchy, but in a good way. Structurally, the composition features multiple rising moments, and its rhythmic component features sustained kicks and crisp snares. It reminds me of barbed sounds with its scratchiness. The vocal parts and the subtle, not-too-loud samples help create a lovely atmosphere.

Lyrically, “The Trees Are Talking” declares that listening to oneself is the only way to feel this world to the fullest. Monaghan compares people to trees, claiming they share the same nature and spring from one root.

When I listen to this composition, I can imagine trees with their branchy structure, which allows me to dive deep into landscapes of my own thoughts and solitary contemplation in nature. I recall different episodes of my life as a sequential mesh of facts.

Electric and acoustic guitars, along with the synthesizers, blend and create the right texture. It felt like I was “touching” it with my ears.
