With a frantic, agitated undertone from more or less the outset, the new tune from Dublin quartet Picture Postcard is a beautiful beast of a track.
Heavily indebted to the sound of the 1990s and early noughties, Wherever You’re Meant To Be is a powerful, meandering journey of a song.
Part Deftones, part My Bloody Valentine, part Slowdive, this distinct fusion of layer upon layer of instrumentation and voices creates a whirlpool of stunning, striking noise. As it drags you down into the dark depths, you realize you’re actually quite at peace and somewhat enjoying that sinking feeling. Like the comforting warmth of an old hoodie on a frigid winter’s day, the amalgamation of sounds wraps itself around you. It engulfs the listener, creating a feeling of nostalgia and affection.
Around halfway through, we meet a sparkly lead synth line which comes as quite a surprise (it’s used earlier in the song but much more reservedly) – apart from that, it’s gazey, noisy goodness all the way.
With classic songwriting structures, pop sensibilities, but abstract, arty execution, this track has something for everyone.
Shimmering, scratchy, and scenic, Wherever You’re Meant To Be is a thing to behold.
The third song from the band is released via the Irish emo label Never Meant, and a full EP – entitled “with time” – is due to follow on May 7th 2026.
