Single: Das Bisschen Totschlag – time

A brave, creative, cinematic fusion of components resulting in something that feels comfortingly familiar but also remarkably fresh and fiercely individualistic.

Hamburg-based trio Das Bisschen Totschlag graces us again with their presence. Not to be confused with prior single “Tim” (which you can read about here), “time” is another track taken from their new fourth album 0dB Headroom

“time” has a very unique sonic palette. Part dreampop, part indie, part electronica, these styles are complemented by percussion that is as distinctive as anything else you care to name. Pulsating electronic beats meld with what sounds like metal: Not metal, the genre, but actual metal material being struck to create percussive sounds. Of course, it may not be that at all. But it certainly sounds like it.

They wouldn’t be the first to employ such a technique. Shawn “Clown” Crahan from Slipknot has been known to whack an oil drum or two over the course of his more than thirty years in the music industry, and we’re fairly sure we remember seeing Guy Garvey of Elbow also employing a similar tactic when performing the band’s standout track Grounds For Divorce live.

Going back to Das Bisschen Totschlag, this track is really quite something. A brave, creative, cinematic fusion of components resulting in something that feels comfortingly familiar but also remarkably fresh and fiercely individualistic. Take a listen to “time” below.
