At the corner of shoegaze and grunge, you’ll find Crystalline by moonpool, the recently released, brain-scratching single from their upcoming EP titled “Nothing Sacred”. This track immediately hooked me onto this band, it’s methodically fuzzy electric guitar riffs and synths driving the song toward the lovely abyss where I regularly situate myself.
This Denver-based band was formerly known as The Sickly Hecks, a post-punk group, and rapidly garnered a fanbase in Northern Colorado before re-aiming their sights on a more grunge noise and changing their name in the process.
Crystalline is their first release as moonpool, and right off the bat I understand how they caught the attention of so many, so quickly. They’ve cracked open a hallway in this genre, carving out their own space and building the map of their sound brick by brick.
This intense, yet calming introduction to their EP makes me excited and hopeful for this band, as they’ve quickly become one of my new favorites. The full EP “Nothing Sacred”, comes out March 7th and I’ll be anxiously awaiting any announcements for a physical copy and swiping my card faster than the speed of light.
Check out this single before the full EP drops to get a glorious taste of moonpool before their sounds hit the masses.
