The Bedroomer is one of those artists that consistently continues to surpass themselves with everything that he releases. I first talked to Nat Hoopes, the person behind The Bedroomer, last year about his single “Fractal”, which is an incredible work of lyricism and instrumentation. His latest release, “Abyss”, is no different. “Abyss” is full of my favorite The Bedroomer sounds, gorgeous, layered instrumentals and vocals working together to create a dreamy, ethereal effect, and he keeps to his pattern of using a large variety of instrumentals and sound effects/filters to render a deep, complex sound. I’m a fan of The Bedroomer not just for his instrumentation, but also his lyricism – there’s a line in the chorus that goes, “I need there to be somethin’ better than this, ’cause it’s all that I want, and I’m ready to quit” that then goes into the line “there’s a reason to live, God, just please let me win”, and every time I hear it, it hits me like a punch to the gut. I really enjoyed “Abyss” and have enjoyed all of The Bedroomer’s past releases, and I’m excited to see what he gifts us with next.
