Single: conflict at serenity pools – Summer Garage

Summer Garage, the new single from L.A based Conflict At Serenity Pools is a lovely little moment captured and one that has been on repeat play since it recently arrived at my door.

A song about ‘being introverted and hanging in the quiet of summer heat’ it’s certainly a light-bathed, lambent thing, beginning with a driving yet understated beat before the strutting rhythm of an acoustic guitar sets things moving. Keys occasionally punctuate – offering either subdued 80s ambience or something more twinkling to the mix, and everything sways soporifically as if the heat of the day has lulled the world into laid back, sleepy insouciance.

Vocally it is utterly beautiful, Luke McQueeney’s double-tracked voice capturing a melody that is subtly captivating and serene yet frayed by an underlying and pervading melancholy. Occasionally backed by a reverb-drenched chorus of voices, it recalls (and in the most gloriously heart-warming way) the twin-tracked, interplayed beauty of Simon and Garfunkel in its deft balance of innocence and world weary – every line shaped by a sun-stroked warmth and nostalgic pull – crafting dream-like shapes in the subconscious; it’s a lovely place to be.

So..what are you waiting for? Go and hide from the humid heat and the stresses of life in this summer garage… you won’t regret it.
