“Zachariah Carlson a.k.a Famous Friend is a Los Angeles based writer/producer/artist. Drawing on his experiences growing up in the private school uber-elite bubble of west L.A., Zach created the alter-ego “Famous Friend” to poke fun at the worst and best parts of living in Los Angeles. Known for wearing red dresses, turquoise earrings, and pearl necklaces like Audrey Hepburn cast in a John Waters movie, Famous Friend blends beds of washed out indie rock guitars with sparkling programmed pop drums, while exploring themes of isolation, jealousy, authenticity and everything else we’d never dare post on Instagram. When not taking the piss out of L.A., Zach is writing and producing for alternative and pop artists like Winnetka Bowling League, Nashon, Drew Ryn, and Casket Cassette. When he’s not doing that he’s at Pickwick Lanes working on his split conversion rate.”
“Famous Friend today releases ‘Tanlines (EP)’ featuring 3 previously released tracks and his latest single, “Time Machine” an indie surf rock track with distorted vocals and hooky guitars. The EPs lead singles, “Tanlines” and “Nora” marked a strong comeback for the Los Angeles based Writer/Producer/Artist that hadn’t released music since 2019.”
The EP I recently discovered has left a lasting impression on me. After listening to two of its singles in the past, I found myself completely hooked on the track called “Nora.” In fact, I’ve been playing it on repeat for the past three months and it has become one of my most-played songs. The EP as a whole is an energetic and catchy compilation of indie pop tunes with hints of post-punk and dream pop. It’s no surprise that it has been garnering so much attention and praise from listeners. The infectious melodies and rhythms are hard to ignore. In fact, I’ve listened to this 4-track EP more than six times already and I still can’t get enough of it. I’m not sure what makes these songs so irresistible, but they have a certain catchy quality that sets them apart from other submissions I’ve heard recently. Whether it’s just my personal taste or not, listening to this EP has been an absolute joy. I highly recommend giving it a listen – you won’t be disappointed!
