Zahra (Zahra Louise) is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter born and raised in Rochester, NY. This newest single is coming from an upcoming 10-track album, ‘Arrival’, set to release on November 7. Zahra is playing all the instruments (except for a few guest appearances), doing vocals, making production, and mastering as well. The album will also be self-produced, so if you were not convinced by the sheer talent this musician possesses, this is even more astonishing. Zahra is “exploring the boundaries of conventional folk and indie rock, and experimenting with rich vocal & instrumental layering and melodic repetition.”
The press release shared a little more about the song, describing it as “an original, versatile song set apart by unique vocal layering, creative use of repetition to convey emotion without becoming monotonous, and a warm, fuzzy tape-like sound.” The song is definitely blending multiple genres like indie rock, lo-fi rock, folk pop, or even soul.
The layers of the melody are beautifully crafted and build up the atmosphere of the song. The gentle acoustic guitar, accompanied by haunting vocals, creates a masterful introduction to the music, and the overall melody is slowly unfolding, much like when you are scratching a card to discover whether you’ve won. However, with this song, you have won for sure.
I have been listening to the song on repeat and have been haunted by it since I first listened to it. I can close my eyes and let the music wash over me like a cold ocean on a beautiful morning when there is no one around. I am walking barefoot on the beach, enjoying the beauty of life. This single is gorgeous at its peak, and I am mesmerized by it.
Just give it a listen, and I bet you will be lusting for more. I am intrigued to hear the whole album, but if it’s as haunting and beautiful as this one, I’m sure I will enjoy it. The most enjoyable thing about our blog is discovering hidden gems like this one.
watching a movie on my own
and i forget about just how much i owe
to all the companies
cooking a meal by myself
and i remember just the way i felt
when you were here with me
taking a shower in my house
when the water hits my back i feel the cloud
of all my memories
reading the novel that you gave me
turn the page but i don’t know the story
guess i feel lonely
trying to sleep in my bed
but i think that i’m losing my best friend
she’s been in all my dreams
waking up in an empty room
feel the silence in my head begin to bloom
a flower opening
