Single: Washing Machina – Debbie Lost Her Mind

A ragged, fun, fast-paced, super-melodic rock number which touches on alt-rock, indie and grunge, Debbie Lost Her Mind is quite the melange of styles.

Lyrically, the song “captures the chaos of that one friend who always takes things too far — the life of the party who somehow turns every night into a story you can’t quite believe happened”. Everyone knows a Debbie – according to the band. We think we’ve probably come across a few!

Musically, it comes across like Sonic Youth at their most accessible – if they were from Stockholm. There are moments that are quite heavy as the guitars crunch and oscillate between jagged and driving. The vocals have a distinct Scandi lean to them – something which we didn’t quite put our finger on at first, but then made sense when we read that the band were Swedish.

Parts of this are sweeter than honey, and other bits feel like a ton of bricks. Both aspects are executed excellently, but it’s the juxtaposition of pairing one with the other that makes it work so well.

We thoroughly enjoyed this and will look forward to keeping an eye on what they put out next.
