Single: WAN – Someday You Will Know

Be prepared to be confronted by WAN’s brutal sound in this bold track!

Peruvian band WAN’s gutsy indie rock sound is on full display in their track, “Someday You Will Know.” Their uninhibited lyrics and intense music will not leave you unscathed!

WAN state that they will “not shy away from getting in your face” – and they are not wrong. From the provocative and brutal lyrics to the relentless guitars and noisy chorus, this indie rock anthem does not hold back. The gritty guitars chug away like an anxious heartbeat, and the hard-hitting lyrics take you on a journey of self-reflection:

“So ask yourself who you’ve become.”

“Karma is no good I guess you’ll find it the hard way”

A loud, unrestrained chorus with crying vocals and a dense sound of electric guitars leads into the bridge – possibly the most impactful part of the song for me – which uses a catchy, sighing melody to express some more pretty existential lyrics: “Life will never start again.” WAN are not afraid to grab your attention with a powerful combination of ruthless lyrics and striking instrumentation.

What you ‘hear’ is what you get with this track, and its relative simplicity helps to increase the impact it has on the listener. Everything is unashamedly laid out in front of you in a simple but effective way, from the repetitive, driving guitar riffs to the clear verse-chorus structure. In its straightforward nature, it is even more confronting; as the band say, it “leaves little to the listener’s imagination.” One thing I would say, however, is that sometimes the lyrics are hard to discern, especially in the chorus – with these just a little easier to hear, the meaning could be made even clearer. Overall, though, WAN understand that there is no need to overcomplicate things to achieve their desired effect on their listeners.
