This submission was simply too good to pass up. Before even listening to the song, immediately I knew I wanted to write about Twink Priest, the queer duo from Cleveland, Ohio.
‘Not Home’ is a track from their 2024 EP, Little Rat Girl, a four song collection of hazy post-punk tracks. ‘Not Home’ is the best of them all, featuring a simple beat courtesy of a dusty drum machine, melodically scuzzy guitars, and barely discernible reverb drenched vocals. It is a tried and tested formula (I recall Beach Fossils, early DIIV, and Black Marble), but it is one that works. It is wonderfully distorted, texturally excellent.
I would highly recommend getting into Twink Priest, beyond the opportunity that you are then able to say that one of your favourite bands is called Twink Priest, but for the music alone. The duo’s combination of DIY aesthetic, well crafted songs, and absurd visuals, make for a listening experience that is nothing short of utter fun.
