Husband and wife duo, This Bliss, has been putting out music in a steady stream since 2018. Jess Baggia and Nick Zampiello utilise their wide-ranging musical influences, condensing them into the uniquely electro-indie that is solely the sound of, This Bliss.
‘First Takes All’, is the second single from the Boston-based band’s Radiate EP, scheduled for release in September 2024. It is a bouncy, upbeat track, with clear influences from dream-pop and summery guitar-based indie; according to This Bliss, it was, “birthed via an unorthodox and rather inventive process”. Vocal samples were stacked to create chords and progressions, whilst other vocal parts were used to create a call-and-response, driving the song forward.
The single comes with a remix of the song by fellow label-mate, Kat Bryan. Bryan’s version is a more ethereal affair, with the focus on the sonic textures and Baggia’s vocals. Both mixes complement each other, both highlighting the successes of the execution of the band’s singular vision.
This Bliss is one of the more unique bands around right now. Where the dream-pop label can often feel like a broken record, it is interesting when a band can take the genre and put a spin on it that is entirely their own. To gain a fresh perspective on the sounds we are all so familiar with, I cannot recommend This Bliss, enough.
