Single: The Radio Field – It’s Alright feat. The Baumhoff Explosives

German outfit The Radio Field team up with The Baumhoff Explosives on the cheery new single, It’s Alright. “You messed it all up until all that’s left is air and sunlight? Well, here is your song.” Taken directly from the bandcamp page for the single, this short blurb says it all.

It’s Alright, is a short and sweet song about fucking up, yet, it feels like so much more. The poignancy of such a simple phrase, “it’s alright”, speaks volumes. It is a phrase we hear and use every single day with a plethora of different inflexions, yet when we hear it here, it is spoken with such an honest, forgiving and inspiring tone that it really makes you feel like it is alright. The vocals are aided in no small part by the immediately uplifting guitars as they jangle between the eternally upbeat drums. It feels like being obliterated by a wave of warm sunlight after a rainy morning.

For the uninitiated, The Radio Field is the bedroom jangle pop project of Lars Schmidt, who cut his teeth with Subterfuge, a German Indie band from the nineties and early aughts. After putting out their first album, Don’ts and Dos in 2023, Lars and Co. have been quiet on the new music front until now, and boy, does it make me excited to see what they show us next!
