The Mad Mile showcases that the best is yet to come with their newest single, ‘The Plates, The Candles, The Wine’. The song feels very slick and modern; everything fits into its place with no one instrument trying to overpower the other. However, while saying that, to me, the synths are the fundamental basis of ‘TPTCTW’. The single wouldn’t be the delightfully addictive song that it is without them. The synths lure us into the heart of the song as they begin the track, bordering on hypnotic. Then the guitars come sweeping in, firmly cementing the single as the best that the duo (consisting of Adam Pickering and Matthew Goodbody) has ever released.

There’s a certain jaggy edge to what the Londoners have created, shrouded deep in a sort of wistful melancholia which grows darker as the track progresses. It’s clear to see that the band has been grafting away at what they do, and it’s always a joy to see this hard work pay off. I’ve never heard anything like it before, the lads have a unique sound which deserves to be heard all across the globe.

My only gripe with ‘TPTCTW’ is that it’s sometimes difficult to make out what is actually being said. You have to really concentrate, otherwise you’ll miss it, but the ones you can make out, including “nobody says it was the end of the road,” totally make up for it.

Paired alongside the slightly sultry vocal delivery and smooth drum beat, which accompanies them. The ending might be my favourite part, that rhythmic, wobbly synth line rounding it off has firmly placed The Mad Mile in my regularly played and I wholeheartedly believe that they should be in yours too!
