It’s safe to say that Change The Film had been a bit of an albatross around the collective necks of the members of Stray Fossa. Over countless versions and ideas recorded as voice notes on an iPhone, the song finally found itself thanks to some brotherly intervention.
The resulting long-gestated final version of the song is a shimmery, surfy, slightly shoegazey indie-rock/pop song that sounds deceptively simple – like it could’ve come to the authors in a joyful daydream. Acoustic guitar intertwined with chimey, jangly lead lines, tasteful basslines and persistent percussion all come together wonderfully.
Part Swiss Portrait, part Beach Boys, part The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart, this is a sunshiney slice of indie dreampop that you’ll be absolutely unable to shake. The cross-continental trio have definitely nailed it. The struggle was 100% worth it.
The accompanying music video, filmed entirely on Super 8, depicts a summer spent writing and recording new tunes in the small mountain town where the trio grew up.
The brothers in the band (Will and Nick Evans) recently launched their record label called Broken Palace Records. Hopefully, that – coupled with the aforementioned mountain-based recording sessions – means we’ll have a third album from them before long.
