Like The Stokes and Beirut having a go at playing Animal Collective songs in an underground daytime jazz club, In A Rose – from Louisville Kentuckys’s So It Was – is quite the combination of components.
It’s got a dusty, lo-fi sound to it that is charming and enchanting, like an old LP that crackles, pops, and thrills. This sensation is a bit reminiscent of the feeling you get when you listen to Devendra Banhart or Coco Rosie.
There’s an instant summery nostalgia to this song. You can tell it’s the kind of tune people will add to playlists now and enjoy but will also look back fondly on for years to come.
No doubt it will sound even better on a warm day, outside, in good company, with a cold drink perspiring in your palm. The sound of sumptuous times to come.
