Silk Daisys is a dreampop project from Atlanta, GA, consisting of Karla Jean Davis and James Abercrombie. Their debut album, expected to be released later this year, was engineered by xDamon Moon (of Bathe Alone) and mastered by Mark Gardener (of the shoegaze band Ride). The band has mentioned in their bio that their music is for fans of The Cure, Lush, Cocteau Twins, The Sundays, and The Cranberries, and I could not agree more.
This latest single is a slight venture into shoegaze realms, but it also utilizes them effectively. There have been many bands sharing music with us that are inspired by the late 90s or early 2000s, and I will repeat myself, but I do not mind this influence at all. I have been enjoying shoegaze sound a lot in the past months and could easily get lost in the swirl of guitars.
The theme of haunted houses is perfect for the upcoming ghostly season when we will become children again and wear costumes to escape the mundanity of our lives. The haunting lyrics, paired with dreamy shoegaze guitars and an overwhelming wall of sound, are something that I can easily connect with. Silk Daisys masterfully created this single, and I have been digging deeper into it while listening to it on repeat. Just give it a chance, and you will eventually get lost in the melody or maybe even the haunted house.
Sharing lyrics as well:
in my haunted house
i feel the ghost of you
i just want you out
what am i supposed to do?
all over my room
your spirit lingers there
at night in my dreams
your memory’s everywhere
i can’t escape
you’re in my mind
i’d have to die
to leave you behind
can’t get away
you’re in my soul
completely under
your control
i can’t get out
of this haunted house
