Single: Siiieee____ – Haru

What makes songs like the dream pop/shoegaze hybrid “Haru” work so well is that they can be aimed at anyone. Think of someone who has truly made life feel like it is worth living. Be it a lover or a best friend. Anyone who seems like life isn’t truly living without them as a supporting cast member in your story. While the sleepy guitars don’t necessarily need a story for you to enjoy it for what it is, it damn sure helps set the scene, especially if the scene wraps around wondering what the next life would be, if you just so happened to one day run into them in another lifetime.

Woodlike percussion assists the tapping of the drums, guitars melt note for note into the endless milky way, and the Japan-based Cana, a solo artist whose past projects include bands such as I-dep and Sotte Bosse, sings of such romantic existentialism (lyric example: “though I’m not always good at this thing called life, you’re like magic sent to me by an angel), “when the day comes for both of us to return to the sky, let’s lie down and dream again above the clouds”) with a voice that carries a heartfelt heft and clarity. In a different world, this song would grace prom playlists and mixtapes galore.
