Single: Self Torque – Wicker Incident

Straight from Brighton, London comes the trio Self Torque to display their forthcoming debut album. The trio’s leading track is Wicker Incident from their new album – A Brutal Nadir.  The song leads with melodic vocals that sound a bit similar to that traditional sound of punk rock from the UK like Sex Pistols and The Clash. First listening to this track it takes you back as to how much it reminds you of Joe Strummers and Johnny Rotten vocals but is mixed with modern melodic beats from drums and guitar. This is one of those short but sweet tracks which is a perfect intro to a new album. A song that hits the exact spot that’s not too little but leaves you wanting more. Wicker Incident has that short, fast, angry and poppy formula to mastering the perfect punk sound. The lyrics define the understanding of childhood experiences that can change with age. The lyrics sort of give that “teenage dirtbag” vibe to it. You know the one where you want to rebel because you finally understand adult things and maybe dye your hair a crazy color because that is sooo punk rock for an early teen. Wicker Incident is definitely a candidate for being a new indie punk anthem for the masses. With its high energy and angry but meaningful lyrics it certainly can make you want to blast it with the windows down with your friends on your way to the local show or even when you are going through it and don’t know how to express your feelings. Whatever the circumstances may be, Self Torque have done an amazing job of mastering that traditional sound of punk mixed with modern aspects and its spunky angry lyrics about change. This is only the beginning track from the A Brutal Nadir album. If you fall in love with this first track, which is more than likely, you might as well do yourself the favor and listen to the rest of the album. Might as well give their other projects a listen and a follow. Go stream Wicker Incident by Self Torque.
