Single: see you soon – in october

With a solitary opening guitar that is reminiscent of Laser Beam by Low, In October is in damn fine slowcore company.

The product of Dutch singer/songwriter Thijs Gieben, who records under the name see you soon, it’s a pensive, introspective lament about seasonal hibernation and self-inflicted isolation.

The by-product of a social battery that is well and truly drained following the influx of activity that traditionally takes place over summer, In October is the sound of reclusiveness.

The lyrics in their entirety are: “Signs of autumn / foggy bottom around / I’m a loner, in October / Times of racing / Stand up, facing it all / It’s all over, in October.” – the minimal, to-the-point sentiment is conveyed concisely, competently, and compellingly. These words are backed by a slow, hazy, lo-fi, dreampop soundscape – awash with reverberating cymbals and the guitar line remaining rigid throughout.
