“Easy Answers” – Sancho Panzer’s newest nifty little track – starts with a quick and punchy drum intro that wastes no time getting to the signature guitar melody on which the song will rest. That’s a huge plus. Get to the point, please, I always say.
If you’re anything like my grumpy ass, you’ll be so very happy when the soon-to-follow vocals are not 100th-generation Blink-Sum 41(82). The production is sharp and fitting for the mid-to-late nineties radio-friendly punk sound, à la Urge Overkill. The song is a tight three minutes and sixteen seconds. There is no reinventing the wheel, or even a pretense of caring to reinvent the wheel, refreshingly.
This is my first run-in with Sancho Panzer, and I am not at all unhappy. Again, I remind you I’m a grumpy ass. So that is saying something. These are new people that I could perhaps not run away from at a party. Keeping with the metaphor, if the lyrics act like them starting a conversation, my interest would be piqued. I’m going to be honest. It’s rare that hearing a band for the first time will make me go dive deeper into their catalogue. But this one did the trick. Off I go.
