Single: S.C.A.B. – Star

WE have been covering the project S.C.A.B. fronted by Sean Camargo from Ridgewood, Queens. “Star” is taken from the forthcoming LP, “Somebody In New York Loves You!” that will be out later in November. The press release features guides to sound, including “think sonic callbacks to early-2000s stadium rock filtered through NYC’s post-punk alleys.”

I will share several quotes from the press in full. One is describing the storyline of the video that accompanies the song:

“The video follows Sean Camargo (frontman of S.C.A.B.) and his friend, whom he accidentally kills, and reminisces about their good times and how he wronged him by having sex with his girl. He then feels bad and brings him back to life as a Frankenstein monster. The monster then does the same to Sean as he did to him in his previous life, and Sean ends up dying the same way. It’s about the loops of life, struggles to break patterns, but ending up in the same cycles somehow.”

There is also a quote from Sampson Dahl, the video director, so you can read a view on it from the director’s point of view:

“The inevitable cycle of love and loss finds us all, often simultaneously, playing the victim and the monster. Despite efforts to absolve ourselves, pain and yearning still plot their course, trotting down familiar paths, uprooting traits and responses we may have otherwise wished lay dormant. Whether passion dwindles to a gentle halt or one commits a truly egregious act, there is no medicine for a broken bond, and if there is a renaissance, the patterns still remain. It is only the color of those patterns that we can mitigate. Though I see this as an infinite truth of companionship, I am not discouraged by the notion. Passion is the flavor of human existence, and though a fallout may color the aftertaste, we always have control over the colors. “

Furthermore, Sean Camargo (frontman & primary songwriter) explained the lyrics a little

“They’re gonna make a big star out of me.” When I shoot above your head, you can wish upon me. You never have to die. You can stay delusional with me. Together we are unstuck in time. Here, nothing hurts, and nothing gets better. When your heart hurts, it doesn’t hurt forever.”

I have decided to share the full quote, as they were nicely introducing both the song and the video, which are both great. I loved watching and listening to them. I have been really enjoying the recent submissions from this band, which are taken from the upcoming album. This newest addition gives us another reason to be excited about the forthcoming album.

Catchy guitar riffs, fast-paced melody, vocals that will wrap around you like a hug. This is the indie pop rock that we have been looking for. It has been reminding me of the playfulness the JW Francis music has been bringing, but this one has definitely more S.C.A.B. twist. I would not be surprised if this song or this band were the “next big” indie thing. This song has a lot of potential even though it is below 2 minutes, which is rare to see, but yet exciting.

I have been listening to the song on repeat to fully immerse myself in it and have been getting hooked by it more and more. I will walk into a local coffee spot in the future, and this one will be blasting from the speakers, and I will feel so good. I am all for it!

Catch my interest
When I’m all colored blue
You already know
What I wanna do to you
To you

So who’s it gonna be to mend your own heart
Who’s it gonna be to make another false start
Who’s it gonna be to take you that far
I could be a star

Caught in space time
Man its so hard to get out
In the same day
Same way
Same old routine drought

So who’s it gonna be to mend your own heart
Who’s it gonna be to make another false start
Who’s it gonna be to take you that far
It could be a star

So look up
And look up
And look out
Who’s it gonna be to help you move on
Who’s it gonna be to help you pass on
So look out

Who’s it gonna be
That lives too fucking long
Who’s it gonna be be be be
Me me me
Oh yeah
