Single: S.C.A.B. – LOVE

Based in Ridgewood, Queens, but with a psychedelic indie sound that comes across, to our ears at least, as having a rather British lean (think The Courteeners or The Vaccines, maybe), S.C.A.B.’s newest tune is an enjoyable, anthemic amalgamation of influences and styles.

With lyrics like “Mom, I got the blues / don’t worry, I love you / I took your ashes to the beach / I was living like you do / Dad, I love you”, it pulls no punches in the earnestness department. Frontman Sean Carmago certainly knows how to turn a phrase that makes you think. Over the course of the song, he seemingly refers to the different types of love in his life. As well as the aforementioned heavy-hitting evocative lyrical tidbits, he also uses observational, almost throwaway comments, like “you died your hair red just like you said you would”, and turns them into poignant, emotionally charged moments.

Musically, there’s also a touch of cult faves The Brian Jonestown Massacre here as well as the widescreen soundscapes of Mercury Rev and the conviction of Irish legends in the making, Fontaines DC.

All in all, a winning combination to say the least.
