Single: Publicity Department – Sheltered Life

Our wonderful friends at Safe Suburban Home are set to unveil another captivating piece of music. This time, they are presenting a fresh single from the Publicity Department, which is the solo endeavor of Sean Brook, the talented vocalist and primary songwriter of London’s alternative rock band, Brunch. This new track is part of an upcoming album that will be released on cassette through our beloved label. To give you a glimpse into the essence of the song, here’s a brief quote from the press release:

New single ‘Sheltered Life’ is a stripped back lo-fi ode to missed opportunities. Building from sparsely picked detuned guitars and plaintive vocals to a final catharsis of power chords and harmonies, ‘it’s about realising maybe you aren’t quite as worldly as you thought and coming to terms with the difference between who you think you are and who you actually are’.

Sean has drawn inspiration from a range of songwriting luminaries, including the evocative David Gedge, the innovative Brian Wilson, the eclectic John Cale, and the humorously eclectic John Shuttleworth. This particular project was conceived as a dynamic outlet for Brook’s pop sensibilities, all while preserving the textured fuzziness characteristic of 1990s alternative rock.

The warm, enveloping sound of this song expertly captures a delightful fusion of lo-fi rock and the raw energy of garage and slacker rock, genres that have greatly resonated with me in recent months. The track is infused with an enchanting atmosphere, further elevated by Sean’s distinctive vocal delivery, which stands out against the rich instrumental backdrop.

The newest single serves as a tantalizing glimpse into the forthcoming album, leaving me eagerly anticipating its release. I must convey my excitement; I am already captivated by the melody and lyrical content. In the meantime, I will immerse myself in the laid-back charm of this lo-fi rock, with Sean’s captivating voice echoing pleasantly in my mind.
