Swedish quartet Primula showcase their versatility with new single “Cobblestone” ahead of their highly anticipated EP Nothing New.
It’s quite hard to describe how important “Cobblestone” is. Not just for the band because of the more grown-up direction it points them in, but also for every individual who gets the chance to listen to it. It reminds us just how fragile life truly is and puts into perspective that we’re all just one small part in the grand scheme of things, as hinted at by the gentle, rhythmic strumming of guitars that get you swaying along in time to the beat.
There’s a subtle complexity to the song that the band crafts excellently. Ella’s vocals are striking: Barely there at times, but they grow louder and more confident as the song progresses. Then the drums that punctuate the song truly help hammer home the message of our insignificance, and if we really think about it, that’s the most freeing thing to be.
I think my favourite thing about this track is the group vocals. People aren’t wrong when they say that there’s strength in numbers. The vocals truly sweep you up into the heart of the song and make you feel like you belong in this strange little world, for which the band seems to have a knack. Throughout their entire discography, they’ve managed to give every listener a home with each release, which is not only impressive but also telling of how good these musicians are at what they do.
At just over four minutes, Primula’s “Cobblestone” leaves you eagerly awaiting their future releases, including their EP, out later this year.
